Come for the atmosphere... Stay for the music!
Welcome to the spectacular Charlotte Opera House. The Charlotte Opera House was built in 1882 and is a Southern cultural institution. Our interior takes you back in time, as you enter our spectacular Victorian Grand Lobby. Try to imagine the late 19th-century merchants, tradesmen, farmers, steamboat passengers, and arts patrons streaming into the theater, eager to hear the music and words of Puccini, Rossini, Mozart, Bizet, and Verdi. Come visit Charlotte's oldest icon of the arts, and see a marvelous example of 19th-century architecture, featuring leather stenciling, an ornate pressed tin ceiling, and a beautiful proscenium stage.
Besides a beautiful theater, the Charlotte Opera House has an art gallery, a gift shop, and our Art's Cafe. Our art gallery presents eight to 10 exhibitions annually of local, national, and internationally known artists and artisans. After a visit to the art gallery, visit the gift shop, where one can purchase original artwork ranging from painting, prints, and original hand-crafted pottery, glass, and jewelry. The Art's Cafe is open to the public, and is a gathering place where musicians and performers enjoy a break between rehearsals, artists meet to discuss ideas, and friends gather just to relax.
